a developing story in northwest washington. a man and two teenagers were rescued out of there, after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. >> leon, the dad and the boy is a recovering at george washington. firefighters say they arrived just in the nick of time because of the people called 911. when they arrive, firefighters had to break down the front door of the sea in place home. the 49-year-old man stumbled out. two 15-year-old boys were unconscious upstairs. >> i asked him about his brother. he said, he is unconscious as well. >> james brown received a phone call from one of the boys this afternoon. he is a mentor to the brothers. >> when he called, he said he was falling down and unconscious periodicly. i told them to call 911. he kept going in and out. it was at that tim that i called my supervisor. >> you are dealing with the dead and sons being on the ground. that is all i hed. firefighters say the carbon monoxide levels work through the roof. >> normally in the 30 to 50 range. we had readings of four to 1000. >> the levels were so high the gas had seeped into two adjoining homes.

's chief washington correspondent john harwood. john, good to have you with us tonight. >> hey, ed. does mr. summers feel confident in trying to get this country back on financial track? >> well, look. i think the economic team and the administration understood when they enacted the stimulus plan early next year that it was going to take a while for the employment situation to turn around. the jobs are a lagging indicator. it surprised everybody i think how quickly unemployment has risen to 12%. that's a difficult situation for democrats. it doesn't necessarily they've taken an incorrect course. in fact, i think the economic team is taking the course that the president wants. the bank initiative was not larry summers idea or the secretary treasurer's idea. >> what do you think that that means, john? >> paul volcker heads an advisory board. the economic team did not feel it was necessary last year and increasing the obvious. and we started seeing that and needed to eventually tim geithner and larry summers went with that program and of course the election in massachusetts dra dram mat sized.

weather in wash you -- in washington you have to be ready for it. it's possible we could see sleet, snow and freezing rain across the washington area. i'll show you the satellite radar and again at this hour no problems. increasing clouds. showing you the clouds on the southern and southwestern horizon. increasing throughout the day and eventually the clouds will win out and the rain will start to move in. it moves in after 8:00 or 9:00 tonight. so the commute this morning and later today should be just fine, we're concerned about the overnight hours later tonight. winter storm watch, it looks like the worst of this is off to the north and west. here in town, no advisories at this hour but we do have a winter storm watch issued for counties well off to the west and north and west of washington, including martinsberg, hagerstown is under a winter storm watch going into affect later tonight and through the afternoon on friday. and counties in white is upgraded to a winter storm warning. and the heaviest accumulations, 2-4 inches of snow and freezing rain and sleet as well, are most likely

is on the wrong track. 81% say that the u.s. is heading in the wrong direction. this according to a "washington post"/kaiser harvard poll. good morning. good to see you, ed. >> good to see you. >> we have "the washington post" which notes in the '08 election, president obama won decisively among voters. what changed? >> he remains pretty popular with folks who showed up to vote. they have real issues with his health care plan. the meetings and negotiations that were held between the two houses of congress have been closed. there isn't bipartisanship and a lot of concern about cost. this in a state which has essentially a universal health care plan. they have big issues with how washington is handling the current health care debate. >> voters said their top issues were health care reform. the efforts in washington. the economy, the jobs, and the way washington is working. it was among the top things on the list they weren't happy with. washington workings, why don't they like it? >> i think for all of the reasons i've seen. they play out in the last few months. again, you can't get a deal done.
